Men's & Women's Cross Country Events

Description

Cross Country skiing is at the heart of all Nordic events. It has the largest field of competetors and is the most popular Nordic discipline for recreaton purposes due to its mass appeal. People of all ages and athletic ability can participate in the sport.

There are two basic techniques in cross-country: classical, where the skis move parallel to each other through machine-groomed tracks in the snow, and free technique where skiers propel themselves in a manner similar to speed skating, pushing off with the edge of their skis. Free technique uses shorter skis and is slightly faster than classical.

  • Want to Become a Cross Country Ski Official?

There is no better time than the present to get involved. With plenty of events planned for the Callaghan Valley in 2008, the need for cross country ski officials is beginning to grow. Because of the Province's commitment to the sport through the construction of this world class destination right here in BC, access to the appropriate officiating courses is alot easier than you think.

CCBC is responsible for officials training within BC. There are 14 courses taking place in BC this year. A list of the courses is found on the CCBC website at: www.crosscountrybc.ca/main.asp?cmd=doc&ID=1778

Individuals should be a member of a sanctioned cross country ski club to take a course and should contact the person indicated on the CCBC website to register for the course. There are clubs in most communities and a list of clubs can be found on the CCBC website at www.crosscountrybc.ca/main.asp?cmd=cat&ID=333.

For further information, please contact your local sanctioned cross country ski club.

Thanks for your interest in helping keep the sport of cross country skiing strong in BC!
