Update from Sarah Lynch
(For those of you who donÕt know, Sarah Lynch is mother to the four skiing Lynch kids, three of whom have been ski jumpers. She is Chief of Calculations for Ski Jumping at the 2010 Olympic Games and has recently moved from Calgary to Whistler, BC. She is now able to be more involved with the new ski jump hills and nordic centre and the great people in the Callaghan Valley who are working to make our events a success this winter and at the 2010 Olympics.)

Sunday November 23rd
ÒIt was a beautiful day out at the Whistler Olympic Park jumps today!! The jumps are looking fantastic. There were hill packers practicing their packing, new volunteers attending level one courses and lots of people out cross country skiing - itÕs looking very white. John Heilig and Jon Servold are hoping to make snow tonight and seem really happy with how things look. Fingers crossed for cold weather.

ÒI met with Amanda Cohen, Volunteer Co-ordinator to go over the volunteer lists. As you can imagine this is a huge job and as the time is getting close there are several people who have not gotten back to her. In several cases emails haven't always gotten through whether its junk filters or changed addresses. Amanda does not want to miss anyone.

ÒIf you are not on this list but would be available to volunteer and have not been contacted for the comps in December please read the letter below and contact Amanda Cohen so she can add you to her volunteer list Amanda_Cohen@vancouver2010.com Telephone 604-403-1533. Hill markers and runners are always in huge demand!!

ÒAs well Amanda has contacted those who will be helping at the World Cups in January - if you are interested in helping out and have not been contacted please let her know. You do have to be registered on the VANOC website to participate Ð if you have not registered on the VANOC website, discuss this with Amanda when you contact her.Ó

Letter from Amanda
Dear Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Volunteers,

This e-mail describes some of the volunteer opportunities available in the 2008-9 season.

WORLD CUP EVENTS
FIS WORLD CUP NORDIC COMBINED JANUARY 15-17, 2009
& FIS WORLD CUP SKI JUMPING JANUARY 23-25, 2009

The World Cup events being held this season are the events that VANOC uses to test our organizational readiness to host the 2010 Olympic Games. Each of these events requires a full compliment of volunteers performing their Games Time roles. The World Cup Sport Events will allow us to gauge our effectiveness and will indicate adjustments that we should make to insure that we are well prepared for the Olympic Games in 2010.

CONTINENTAL CUP EVENTS
FIS CONTINENTAL CUP NORDIC COMBINED
& CONTINENTAL CUP LADIES SKI JUMPING TUESDAY DECEMBER 16-18, 2008.

The Continental Cup events being held this season precede the World Cup events and are generally identified as second tier international events.

The Continental Cup events can provide you with a great opportunity to watch excellent Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined action while learning a lot more about your volunteer roles. The Continental Cup can offer you an opportunity to try a few different roles and learn in a more relaxed environment with no TV cameras, limited media, and scaled down services in all areas. What will not be scaled down is the excitement of the competition. In particular the Ladies Continental Cup will be exciting with Canadian women capable of winning. The Continental Cup is the highest level of womenÕs jumping in the world.

We hope that many of you are interested in joining us to learn more and have some fun in the snow just before Christmas.

For those of you from outside of the Sea to Sky/Lower mainland area we can offer you the following:
Accommodation in Squamish from the evening of December 15-17th
Transportation to and from the venue from the Squamish accommodation source
Lunch at the venue December 16-18
The responsibility for breakfasts and dinners is the responsibility of each individual. We will provide cooking facilities at the accommodation source and will possibly be able to provide breakfast and dinner but this is still to be confirmed.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Continental Cup events please email Amanda_Cohen@vancouver2010.com and say: YES I WANT TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE CONTINENTAL CUP EVENTS DEC 16-18, 2008. I AM AVAILABLE TO VOLUNTEER ON THESE DAYS ____________________.
