Level 1 Theory and Technical Officials Course

Purpose: to provide potential Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined volunteers and officials with knowledge of the sports and their competition framework. Upon completion of this course, potential volunteers should:
  • Have an appreciation of the sports including their history, technique and equipment
  • Be able to list and locate the key components of a ski jump facility
  • Have an understanding of the different competition formats, scoring and basic rules
  • Understand the role of the International Ski Federation, the competition committee, jury and other officials
  • Understand the structure of a competition organization and the volunteer roles within that structure
  • Have gained enough information on the volunteer position to have a general idea of which roles might suit them best

  • Location: In the Judges Tower at the Ski Jumps at Whistler Olympic Park

    Dates: Sept 21, Oct 18, Nov 22, Nov 23 (only attend one)

    Time: 9am-2pm

    What to Bring: A lunch, outdoor attire and footwear



    Level 2: Race Office Seminar

    Purpose: Advanced understanding of race office tasks and activities

    Location: In the Judges Tower at the Ski Jumps at Whistler Olympic Park

    Dates: Oct 19

    Time: 1-4pm

    What to Bring: Outdoor attire and footwear



    Level 2: Calculations Seminar

    Purpose: Introduction to the ski jumping results and video distance system

    Location: In the Judges Tower at the Ski Jumps at Whistler Olympic Park

    Dates: Oct 19

    Time: 1-4pm

    Level 2: Hill Decorating and Preparation Seminar

    Purpose: Enhanced skill development for landing hill volunteers (ski packing techniques, and hill decoration methods/techniques)

    Location: Ski Jumps at Whistler Olympic Park

    Dates: Nov 23

    Time: 9am-12pm

    What to Bring: Warm outdoor attire and footwear. Hill decorating and preparation participants should also bring alpine/telemark skis/boots



    Level 2: Stadium Preparation Seminar

    Purpose: Understanding the stadium layout for international events. This will include mixed zone, athlete compound, field of play fencing, media, broadcast, photo, athlete access control.

    Location: Ski Jumps at Whistler Olympic Park

    Dates: Nov 23

    Time: 9am-12pm

    What to Bring: Warm outdoor attire and footwear. Hill decorating and preparation participants should also bring alpine/telemark skis/boots



    Sea to Sky Youth Program

    Purpose: To recruit students, grades 8 to 12, in the Sea to Sky Corridor with Advanced Alpine Ski Skills who are interested in volunteering for the 2010 Olympics. This training day will prepare the participants with on-hill skills to prepare the landing hill of the Ski Jumps.

    Location: Ski Jumps at Whistler Olympic Park

    Dates: Nov 22

    Time: 9am-12pm

    What to Bring:Downhill Skis/boots, warm outdoor attire
