Squamish First Nation Pow Wow
CALOC Culture Chair Krisztina Egyed attending the annual Squamish First Nation Pow Wow at Totem Hall in November. This is a must see three day event, featuring non-stop First Nation drumming, singing and dancing, as well as the spectacular Grand Entry, Traditional First Nation Feast, and competitive Traditional Dance events. The event attracts participants from all across North America. First Nation culture will be central to the theme of the 2008 Nordic Games at the Callaghan Valley. Metamorphosis Evolution
Metamorphosis Evolution is the gallery of local artists that was recently compiled for the BC Museum of Mining by CALOC's Cultural Chair, Krisztina Egyed. The gallery is an expression of the relationship between mining and the process of change and transformation. The exhibit presents a unique multi-disciplinary cross-section of contemporary art by a diverse group of creators. The Sea to Sky Corridor was recently determined to have the second highest artistic population in a community of fifty thousand or less in all of Canada. Sporting events in the Callaghan will give us a stage to exhibit that artistic ability to the Nation and the World.

Western Canada has a rich resource based beginning, mining, railway, and logging are key to the development of the West Coast. Industry and industriousness have shaped our province and laid the foundation for development and adventure. The same industriousness that built our Province, will be employed to build the Callaghan, and to create something that once did not exist.

Art is the barometer that gauges our evolution as a society, therefore the inclusion of art in some form in the Callaghan and surrounding events is a realistic way to gauge and express our thoughts with regards to this emerging sport in the Corridor and in the Callaghan. Krisztina and her team will be looking at issues of culture in the Callaghan and the expression and communication of that culture to the World.
